Persystent Software Helps Organizations Save thousands on Energy Bills

Tampa, FL, August 31 2009
, – Persystent Software, developers of Persystent Suite, the fastest automated PC recovery product on the market – restoring corrupted, changed, or missing operating system and application files in 30 seconds or less – today announced that customers are welcoming the additional energy savings benefit that its automated PC shutdown feature provides, particularly in a down economy. Out of the box, Persystent Suite reduces energy costs and carbon footprint by ensuring that no additional energy is wasted by idle computers running overnight, on weekends or on holidays.

Since the automated PC shutdown feature is customizable, controlled from a centralized management console, IT can designate which groups or individual PCs need to be shut down during non-critical work hours and report on it for auditing or power credits. Using Wake-on-Lan, IT can also turn them back on. Some regional power companies throughout the US offer credits for companies that can demonstrate power control over their environment.

"We have over one thousand PCs deployed in 47 computer labs across our four campuses," said Herman Daniels, CIO at Gulf Coast Community College in Panama City, Florida. "Our labs are open until 9.30 p.m. every weekday, so it was a challenge to ensure all our PCs were turned off at the end of the day. By combining Microsoft Windows group policy with the Persystent software, we have automated the shutdown process, reducing our energy costs and eliminating the need for someone on our staff to manually power down the machines each night."

Organizations that want to implement a power management solution, can calculate their own savings using the Persystent ROI calculator.

Computers are huge consumers of electricity, and recent studies are showing that much of that power is wasted. For example, it is estimated that more than 30 billion kilowatt-hours of energy is wasted annually because end users simply don’t power down their computers when not in use. Shutting down a single PC, or even an entire work room is considered a small task. However doing this task manually is inefficient in the long run and is virtually impossible to do every night by even the most dedicated staff. Company-wide manual shutdown policies help, but sick days, vacations and simply taking off early on a Friday or running to catch the bus can all become obstacles to proper PC power management. By deploying Persystent Suite, IT organizations will be able to automate PC shutdown from a central console, helping to enforce power management policies in a consistent and orderly manner, as well as helping their IT departments to measure and quantify energy saving results.

"Experienced IT managers have found that even with an advertised company policy to shut down computers at night, the best they can expect to achieve is a 40 percent compliance rate," said Joe Loughry, president and CEO, Persystent Software. "Our customers are telling us that in addition to reducing help desk calls that impact the bottom line, they can also quickly quantify ROI for Persystent Suite by simply calculating power management savings. They see the automatic shut down and Wake-on-Lan functionality as a bonus received in addition to the repair, imaging and compliance functionality that Persystent Suite provides."

According to Gartner, "Organizations that are actively employing power management functionality can expect to save $43,300 per year, compared with unmanaged organizations (based on the number of machines). Due to rising electricity prices, this is 13% higher than it was in mid-2007."

About Persystent Software Solutions
The Persystent® Software solutions ensure that end-user desktop and laptop computers are always available and fully functional—whether in the office or offsite.

When computers are down, so is business productivity.  Persystent Software developed the only automated PC recovery product on the market with unsurpassed speed, restoring application and operating system (O/S) files that are corrupted, changed, or missing, in less than 30 seconds.

Unlike any other disaster recovery provider, Persystent Software offers the only solution that restores degraded systems to a working state whether the PC is on or off the network, and even if the O/S will not start.

In addition to keeping end users productive, Persystent Software enables IT staffs to control PC damage, reduce help desk calls, enforce compliance, and improve the success rate of software patches and updates.  Additional benefits include energy savings through reduced PC power consumption via an automatic shutdown feature.
