Persystent Software Facilitates Smooth Process for Windows 7 Migration
Tampa, FL, November 16, 2009 – Persystent Software, developers of the fastest automated PC recovery solution on the market -- restoring corrupted, changed or missing operating system (O/S) and application files in 30 seconds or less -- announced its simple 3-step process to accommodate IT customers who plan to update their O/S to Windows 7.
Windows 7 has received much focus in the media. Yet despite exciting new features and functionality of Windows 7, Microsoft does not offer a direct upgrade over XP. Persystent Software makes the migration from XP through Vista to Windows 7 quick and seamless -- whether IT technicians are provisioning new machines or “re-provisioning” old ones with Windows 7.
“The existing migration tools offered by Microsoft can be very manual. When thousands of PCs need to be deployed, it might not be a feasible solution for enterprises. That’s where Persystent Software makes a huge difference,” states Katherine Wattwood, VP of Product Development at Persystent Software. According to Wattwood, “Whether it’s new hardware preloaded with Windows 7 or an existing desktop, laptop or notebook, with Persystent, IT can automate the migration of thousands of computers by scheduling tasks at a preferred time and date, which makes for a seamless transition.”
In the case of provisioning new machines, the multi-casting capabilities of Persystent Software enable organizations to image multiple machines simultaneously. Once the new O/S is installed, the previously captured user profiles can be automatically restored to the new Windows 7 machines.
In the case of re-provisioning existing machines, since the upgrade option is not available in Windows 7 Setup when installing Windows 7 on a computer running Windows XP, Persystent accelerates the process of re-provisioning by suggesting that the computer’s operating system be removed by formatting the hard drive. After Windows 7 is then installed, Persystent Software restores the end user profiles which would otherwise be lost.
Before getting started, check for compatibility issues, Persystent recommends conducting a hardware assessment to determine what PCs are deployed in the organization that are Windows 7 ready, and which machines will need to be replaced. The asset capabilities of Persystent Software can easily help with this step.
And while Wattwood remains extremely confident in the ability of Persystent Software solutions to help customers making the long-awaited switch to Windows 7, she cautions customers, “Don’t assume that applications that worked well with XP will automatically gel with Windows 7. Microsoft offers an application compatibility toolkit for free and at Persystent we strongly recommend leveraging it for optimal success.”
In the past, for many IT technicians, O/S migrations have traditionally been plagued with a number of complications. Persystent Software is poised to make the migration process a smooth one with built-in tool capabilities to streamline O/S migrations and enable the success rate of software patching in a variety of ways. These include:
- Offering Asset Management capabilities to assess the PC landscape to determine what PCs are Windows 7 ready, and which machines need to be replaced
- Providing end-to-end automation for provisioning new PCs, upgrading older PCs with a new O/S, or retiring older machines
- Preserving end user profiles and settings
- Enabling IT to schedule tasks and automate the process with a convenient Web-based IT management console
In light of its effort to streamline the process of migrating to Windows 7, Persystent Software has received attention by media outlets such as Network World, the premiere publication for network and IT administrators, who recognized Persystent as a market leader for Windows 7 migration (featured article: Seven tips to migrate and manage Windows 7: Taking the leap to Microsoft's latest operating system? Persystent Software solutions, including Persystent Suite, ensure that workplace PCs always run smoothly by identifying and resolving any operating system and application-related issues, automatically or on demand, every time the machine starts up.
