Increase Success Rate for Software Patches and Updates
Keeping your operating system and applications up to date with the most recent patches and updates will protect your PC environment from emerging threats. When software vendors discover a new vulnerability that could leave a user susceptible to attack by malware, they distribute a patch to fix it. Patches may also be used to upgrade, fix a bug, improve performance or add new documentation.
Patches may be required for: applications, web applications and operating systems.
Testing Patches
Usually a patch is tested before it is rolled out to the entire network. The patch is tested on a machine with the authorized configuration for your company. If the test passes then it should be successful across your environment, but this is not always the case. Configuration drift could have modified some of the PCs and these configuration changes could cause a patch to fail.
Ensuring that each PC has the authorized configuration, the same as the test machine, will significantly increase your success rate. Persystent ensures PCs are fully compliant with your company’s authorized configuration. At each boot cycle the PC configuration is scanned and compared for compliance. All compliant files that have been changed or deleted are restored and all non-compliant files are removed. The configuration is preserved and patches can be applied successfully.
Rollback Capabilities for Patch Failure
Although patches are meant to fix problems, sometimes they can introduce new problems. With Persystent deployed on end user PCs, it’s easy to roll back to a previous repair point and recover from software distribution and OS patch failures. End users can remain productive while you investigate the issue.
Capturing Current Repair Point after Patch Success
Once the patch has been verified, a new repair point can be captured with Persystent to include the latest patch.
Windows Server Update Service(WSUS) and Windows Update Integration
Persystent provides the ability to integrate with Windows Server Update Services (WSUS) and Windows Update. After integration is complete Persystent will automatically capture a new repair point to include the latest patch that has been deployed by WSUS or Windows Update.
