Preserve End User Settings and Profiles for Thin & Thick Clients

What is Desktop Virtualization?

Desktop Virtualization is a process of separating a personal computer’s desktop components (its programs, applications, processes, files and data) from the physical machine.  The “virtualized” desktop is stored on a remote central server instead of on the hard-drive of the local PC.

All of the components used by the desktop are kept and run centrally, allowing end users to remotely access via any device capable of displaying the desktop, such as a PC, laptop, smartphone or thin client.

How does Desktop Virtualization Impact the End User?

One of the main issues of going virtual is the loss of end user personalized and customized settings on the desktop.

It is very difficult to lock down an entire environment and continue to provide end users, especially travelling users, with the functionality they need to do their job. Having hundreds of end users sharing a standardized virtual desktop, also known as a “dumb terminal,” may not be optimal for most companies. Knowledge users need more flexibility.

How Does Persystent Support Desktop Virtualization?

Persystent Suite combines the best of both worlds – a virtual desktop that also preserves end user profiles.

Persystent desktop virtualization enables IT to manage individualized desktops remotely, giving the end user a full desktop experience, while letting IT staff provision, manage, upgrade and patch PCs virtually instead of physically.

Persystent Suite automatically maintains multiple, clean, virtual desired recovery point images for each desktop and eliminates the need to manually capture snap shots.

Since virtual PCs need to be patched just like regular PCs, Persystent captures the new image when the last patch or security update is applied. If a new patch conflicts with other core applications, all machines can be rolled back to the previous image within 30 seconds.

Since all applications and data are stored on a server, IT no longer needs to worry if a laptop gets lost, stolen or becomes infected with a virus. Virtualization ensures business continuity in the event of a major public transport disruption or workplace disaster.

With Persystent Suite, help desk support costs are reduced because you don't have end users making accidental changes to their operating systems, which tend to cause a lot of the desktop problems that organizations experience.
