Whitepaper
The Federal Desktop Core Configuration |
This whitepaper provides background, current status, and source data on the Federal Desktop Core Configuration (FDCC) that was mandated by the Office of Management and Budget (OMB) on March 22, 2007. Also included is the introduction of a software tool that enforces the FDCC on every PC automatically. All Federal Government agencies must ensure that their desktops and laptops comply with the FDCC immediately (effective February 1, 2008). As a result, there is a need for an efficient, cost-effective implementation process and for effective auditing tools. Without them, FDCC implementation will fail. |

The sledgehammer versus the scalpel: Moving beyond
traditional PC imaging |
Traditional PC imaging software provides
IT administrators with a tool to deploy new desktops and
operating systems. Corporate images are standardized and
deployed to take care of day one. But what about day two
and the remainder of a desktop's lifecycle? Because of
its obvious limitations and its damaging effects on user
productivity, the "sledgehammer" approach is giving way
to a more flexible and granular approach. When it comes
to imaging, the scalpel delivers much more effective and
efficient imaging than the sledgehammer. |
